Smoke

Have you ever been to the real jazz jam session? I mean the old school version with musicians of all stripes who barely know each other. Smoke is the perfect place for this. I landed at the place randomly based on friend's recommendation. What a pleasant discovery! On Tuesday night it was packed. What's better--most of the people in the room (probably all except for us) were musicians. One by one, they wrote their names on the blackboard lined up by the instrument. At the end of each composition someone was replacing the guy who just played on stage. Granted, the quality you get is uneven, but overall it is quite amazing experience given that each performance was totally improvised.

old time favorite.... not much to add. Place to go to see quality jazz and enjoy a great meal and bottle....

Oh, I love this place. Went there once on my visit to NYC and still reminisce about it. Great jazz.
