Where else in Southern California do you find redwoods? Carbon Canyon has a planted forest of about 100 redwoods...They are still babies (planted around 1975), but when I walked underneath them, I definitely forgot that I am in the middle of Orange County, 10 minutes from where I live. The rest of the park is standard: lake, children's playground, tennis courts, but the redwoods are absolutely worth a short visit and hike.

Its a wonderful experience to watch a silent movie, accompanied by organ music - the music makes the ridiculous over-acting seem a little less out of place...This rating is definitely based on such an experience :)! "Phantom" is extremely silly, the "Phantom" character is, if anything, totally pathetic (along with the detective that investigates him), other characters are pretty flat, but as a whole - a great way to immerse into a totally different era of film.

I'm not sure whats this place is - its not really a restaurant or a bar...I had breakfast there, a dish called the Blue Maxx (eggs, spinach, sausage, bread, potatoes) - not bad, but nothing special and way too dry...In the evening (9-10) on a weekend it was also sort of empty, a few couples here and there, looking bored out of their minds...There are definitely better places to go in Culver City, both for food and t hang out.

Venice canals are a perfect spot for a lazy stroll on a Sunday afternoon, when the weather is not good enough to enjoy the beach and not bad enough to stay indoors. There is something special in wondering around near these fake water ways, staring at the water, hanging at one of the bridges! Two things are missing though: being able to rent some tiny canoe, to explore the canals in, and a nice coffee shop to enjoy an espresso when you bored.

I cannot appreciate the American obsession with ghosts, dead bodies, thrills and Halloween...The story in "Nightmare before Christmas" is just flat - lot's of signing, but nothing really happens...The initial theme - separate cities/worlds of creatures "preparing" holidays for humans is super promising, but everything quickly becomes dull and repetitive. The music & signing are absolutely amazing, and help this relatively poor storyline move forward.

Palomar Mountain caters to a variety of interests: the world-famous observatory - for the nerds, civilized camping (with showers) for the wanna-be outdoors kids, nice and easy hikes with gorgeous view of San Diego County for the lazy hiker-photographer. I visited in the early fall, but the place looks like it would be wonderful at any time of year. Doane Valley campground is very convenient, the view from Boucher lookout-stunning!

I can't say there is anything original about this theater...another very small theater in the downtown area...Seating for no more than 200 people, a little run down, nothing particularly special...I saw a Spanish-language play, "Razon Blindada", and I think that its part of their community reach out efforts (to have Spanish-language plays to attract predominantly Latino members of the local community)...Would definitely visit another time...Oh :) They have special foods served before the plays, I can't say I like tamales, but they were pretty good...And nice, family friendly atmospehere

I haven't had awesome home made pizzas like my mom used to make at home in many years, and Bon Epi had them...! And for $1.50 a piece (plenty for a 1/2 lunch for me :) The pastries also looked really neat.

I like Goda because of its convenient location. The instructors are nice, its a pretty clean studio, but there is nothing exceptional about it.

Although this is a "beach" state park it is good for all seasons. If you don't feel like hanging out near the water, stroll on one of the paths on top of the hill next to the parking lot. There is plenty of space to run, walk with a dog or ride the bike. For ocean fans, walk down to the beach and explore some of the rocky areas with tide pools, take a nap on the sand, or try and do some surfing. This is also a good area for beginner scuba divers and snorkeling (when the water is clear). Some of the rocky areas are also great spots for a nice picnic. The parking is a little pricey - $15 (unless you have a state parks pass), but I definitely think it is worth it!

I am totally with you. Great place.
