What is InterestMIX?
InterestMIX is your one stop recommendation site. Now, there are dozens of recommendation websites, but most of them work by listing random people’s reviews and feeding you averages. On InterestMIX, we tailor recommendations to your personal taste. How do we do it? We analyze what you rate, what your friends like and what experts you choose. This makes recommendations much more useful to you. What’s more, on InterestMIX you can rate and review practically anything—music, movies, wine, restaurants, books, activities, culture and more.
How comprehensive is InterestMIX?
Our database is very comprehensive with over 10 million records. If you are looking for that obscure German movie from the 50s or that rare bottle of Shiraz you’ve tried on your last trip to Australia, we most likely have both.
How detailed is our information?
Our goal is to give you enough info to make educated choices. Wine bottle record for example should have winemaker, vintage, country, region, appellation, grape varietal, etc. However, we don’t dive into extra details such as winemaker history. Why? Well, this site is not encyclopedia. We focus on our core mission— sharing recommendations between likeminded people.
How do I find things on InterestMIX?
There are several ways to find things on InterestMIX. If you know exactly what you are looking for—simply type it in the search box. If you are not sure and just want to browse—we have simple, yet robust browsing for every category. You can filter restaurants by cuisine, location and price, wine by region, varietal and type, and so on.
What if I can’t find something I’d like to review?
No problem. You can create a new record yourself in less than a minute, then rate and review it. We appreciate our members’ contribution. This makes the site more useful for everyone.
How do my ratings make recommendations better for me?
What do your interests and opinions say about you? The more things you rate, the more we can fine-tune our algorithm to match your individual taste. Mathematically, it can never get perfect. You know, human nature is just too complex. But it does get much better than a simple average. So, fire away—rate and review things you are passionate about and we’ll work really hard to deliver to your taste.
How do I find recommendations?
Our mission is to help you find new and interesting things by letting you see what your experts and friends like. Whenever you view a restaurant, a movie or any other thing on the site, we always show you your experts’ and friends' reviews first. When you log in, the homepage (your MIX page) will show all the latest reviews from your experts and friends. You can also browse any category on the site to see highest rated or most reviewed items. You can even filter “Likely for you” items once you’ve rated a number of things in that category, sufficient for us to guesstimate your taste.
How do I find friends?
Simply upload your address book from Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail and we’ll tell you who is already on the site. You can also invite your friends to join or just share your reviews and ratings.
What is my MIX page?
This is the page where you receive all new ratings and reviews from your friends and experts.
How can I see what my friends like?
Your friends’ reviews and ratings are constantly streamed to your MIX page. If you want to see someone’s ratings and reviews all at once, simply go to that friend’s ratings page.
Who are the “experts”?
InterestMIX is a democratic and open place. Experts are simply people whose opinion you find valuable. You can mark anyone as an expert in any category (say music) and thus get his or her reviews and ratings. They will be streamed to your MIX page, just as with friends. We display how many people rank someone as an expert in particular category to help members find most trusted critics.
Why should I bother to personalize my profile?
We hate websites asking users for information they don’t really need. That’s why we made our registration extremely simple—just name and email. We respect your privacy. That said, we encourage you to personalize your profile as it makes InterestMIX more useful for you. Use your real name and upload photo—it makes it easier for friends to find you. Add your ZIP or city and we automatically filter recommendations by your location.
