Fresca
Tadich Grill

mark ryles: Tadich is the epitomy of old school sf. wood paneling, waiters in white coats/ties and plenty of the older generation enjoying food and drinks. tadich's is known for fresh fish, surly waiters and business lunches with plenty to drink. most people either love or hate it--if you are expecting a fancy/trendy place you will hate it but if you want to go to a classic sf restaurant you will love it. the grilled fish is excellent and the portions are very generous. its main competitor is sams which is about 5 blocks away but tadich is a much larger place. if you arent there by 11:45 am you will have to wait for a table.

Hog & Rocks

Julia Gleason: My boyfriend and his friends will probably kick me for giving Hog & Rocks a mere three stars but I can't help it; I just didn't enjoy my food there as much as they did. One of the things I really liked about H&R was that we literally just walked in and got seated. This is a new restaurant and in prime Mission location so I was surprised that this was the case. Half the menu is seafood and the other half is American (mostly pork dishes). Now, I don't eat seafood so right off the bat I was pretty limited. I was debating between the pasta with tomato, egg and ham, or the bratwurst. Since there's been all that talk related to the egg recall a little fear kicked in and I went with the bratwurst. I wish I had gone with the pasta. It's not that the sausace wasn't good (it's house made every day, btw), it just didn't wow me. I took a couple bites of it with the cabbage and was bored. It needed potatoes or some sort of contrasting taste. It all had a very similar flavor which is why I tired of it quickly. I ordered the Moscow Mule for a drink and the first half of it was good and then after that the lime they had put in it was too intense. They put half a lime in and then left it in the cocktail to marinate. It was way too much, way, way, too much. We ordered the crispy cheese and ham fritters (a special); that was probably the best part of the meal for me. They tasted like fried balls of macaroni and cheese. I want to come back and try the pasta. I have a feeling that my rating will increase the next time I visit. P.S. they have a sticky bun parfait that looks unbelievable.

Mayes Oyster And Steak House

Julia Gleason: It's my Dirty 30 on Monday so a few of my girlfriends and I went out on Saturday night. We had a lovely dinner at Dosa and then trekked over to Mayes on Polk in the pouring rain. I was sure we'd be the only ones in there because of the horrid weather but by 12 it was absolutely packed. I drank, frolicked, danced my butt off and had a fantastic time doing it. Before I knew it they were screaming for last call and the night was over. My only complaint is that it's a freaking SAUNA in there. They need to turn the heat down because by the end of the night it looked liked I had taken a shower.

La Mar Cebicheria Peruana

Julia Gleason: If you're a seafood fan, La Mar is right up your ally. My coworkers were slurping down the ceviche and scarfing the shrimp empanadas . If you're like me, though, and seafood isn't necessarily your cup of tea, it's a little harder to find a ton you're into on the menu. However, I will say that the few items I was able to eat, I thoroughly enjoyed. The beef empanada was scrumptious and crispy. The flank steak skewer was ridiculously good. Their quinoa salad was refreshing and tasty too. However, it all paled in comparison to our dessert; the chocolate beignet. Good LORD those morsels were fantastic. They were served with banana ice cream. I'm day dreaming about them as I type. The restaurant is right on the water so you would imagine it had nice views but unfortunately it rests behind a long pier and on the other side, huge boats blocking your view. That was a bummer.
