Three Twins Ice Cream

Julia Gleason: I've driven past Three Twins Ice Cream a few times in the past month and with every glance I vowed to try it as soon as I could. I'm blissfully happy to report that this last weekend I was able to give it a go. At first when I walked in I was a tad skeptical. I saw the sign "organic" above their small selection and it made me wonder if the flavors were going to taste like crap. As much as I love organic everything and strive to buy it for as much as I can afford, ice cream is meant to be bad for you; that's why it's ice cream. I worried that it was going to taste too healthy. I ended up ordering the lemon cookie. All I have to say is that if this is how organic ice cream tastes, count me in! It was phenomenal. The lemon was refreshing without being tart and the cookie gave it the perfect amount of richness. I had one scoop atop a sugar cone and it was gone within what felt like seconds. I could have easily eaten two more scoops. The BF had the cookies and cream which was also wonderful but I'm still giving the edge to lemon cookie. Only downside to note is the cost. It was $3.25 for one scoop which seems a little high considering you can buy a gallon of ice cream at the grocery store for not much more than that. For a rare treat, though, it's worth it.

Yogen Fruz

Julia Gleason: This place is weird but in a good way. They have about 6 (give or take) flavors to choose from but none are pre-made. When you order the mint chocolate chip, for example, they take out two packages that resemble space food and then proceed to mix and stir together your requested flavor. The taste is different that's for sure and I could see how somebody may not like it if they're used to a more traditional froyo. I however, enjoyed it immensely and thought it was refreshing. I didn't enjoy the $4 price tag for a small cup; I nearly spit out my first bite in surprise as he rang me up. Looks like it's goign to be a rare treat.

American Cupcake

Julia Gleason: I hate reviews that start out with "I wanted to love this place," but in this particular scenario, it's the only suitable intro. I really wanted to love this place. Like... really, really! With cotton candy, cupcakes, sundaes, red velvet fried chicken and spiked milkshakes awaiting within its stark white confines, how could you not expect amazingness? Unfortunately when we sat down to eat lunch, nothing really lived up to my high expectations. I ordered their corn chowder which was actually pretty good but was one of those dishes that you grow tired of quickly. The milkshake was just so-so; I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate they used. The tots were delicious but the fried chicken tasted burned. This would be a great spot for a date (they serve drinks too!) or a birthday for kids. I would also consider it just for an afternoon sugar craving. I wouldn't come back for a full blown meal, though.

The Cheesecake Factory

Julia Gleason: Sometimes I feel like dining at a chain. There's typically no rhyme or reason for it; it's just nice to go somewhere and know exactly what you're getting. I had one of these moments on Saturday night when I had a sudden craving for The Cheesecake Factory. Their extensive menu, sugary drinks and bustling atmosphere were calling my name. When I arrived I remembered exactly why I steer clear of this place time and time again - the wait. It took us over an hour to be seated. By the time we got sat I was so hungry I was tempted to order everything off the menu. In the end I cut it back to just the orange chicken with a side of succotash. I was very pleased with both, especially the succotash, which admittidedly, I order every time I come here; it's so fresh and delicious! I think we waited longer than we dined but nonetheless, it was kind of (insert itallics here) worth the wait.

Starbucks

Julia Gleason: This Starbucks is rumored to be the busiest in San Francisco which if you're judging by the speed in which they serve you, you'd never know. About once a week I stroll in to get a latte and every time the line is wrapped towards the other side of the store. I never leave, though, because I know that they always get to me quickly. They also know me by name. It doesn't matter if I stop going for a month and come back in, they always know my name. I know it sounds silly but it really does ad something to the experience. They know me! Their coffee is always good but I'm a Starbucks fan. I'm not in to Peet's or Tully's - too strong.
