Golden Era Vegetarian Restaurant

Julia Gleason: For me, the thought of a vegetarian restaurant conjures up thoughts of bland food and limited options. Golden Era has has blown my biases out of the water. Since moving to the Loin last year, this little restaurant tucked away downstairs on O'Farrell has become a staple. I regularly pop in for their won ton soup and lemon "chicken" with brown rice. The won ton soup is better and fresher than any meat-version that I've ever had and the "chicken" really does taste like chicken! I'm eating healthy even though it doesn't feel like it. Another awesome vegetarian restaurant just a few blocks down is Millennium; it's a lot fancier than Golden Era but worth it for a special occasion.

Wing Lee Bakery

Julia Gleason: I never make it out to the Richmond. It's just so...far. On a whim the BF and I decided to make a trip out to Cheap Pete's to get a couple of posters framed. Since we were out there, we decided to do a little exploring on Clemente Street. First off, I was shocked at how many Chinese food restaurants there were. It was like visiting a whole other China Town! We knew we wanted some dim sum so we looked around and decided on Wing Lee Bakery. It had a steady stream of people coming through so we figured we couldn't go wrong. We were right. I got in line and when it was my turn to order I started listing off everything on the menu. The BF was like, " is that for both of us?" We ended up sharing the mountain of food I ordered. My favorite was the pork bun. Why is sweet dough wrapped around BBQ pork so darn good? So, so, darn good.
