Bistro Boudin

Mengfei He: Great location if you're walking around pier 39. I think it's the only classy restaurant within that block. Food was ok, not great but 3 hours of free parking rocks.

Cafe Madeleine

Julia Gleason: I've been buying cakes and goodies from Cafe Madeleine for about 4 years now. I plan a lot of social events for the company I work for and whenever we require something sweet and delicious, I walk around the block and pick up one of their exquisite cakes. There aren't a lot of options in the Financial District if you don't want to pay delivery fees. There's Cafe Madeleine and Safeway. Safeway is not exactly high class. Don't get me wrong; it serves a purpose and some of their desserts are actually quite delicious but if you're looking for something of a higher caliber, the only option is Cafe Madeleine. My coworker and I just ordered a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I'm literally shaking with anticipation (or is that because of the 4 cups of coffee I had this mornigng...).

American Cupcake

Julia Gleason: I hate reviews that start out with "I wanted to love this place," but in this particular scenario, it's the only suitable intro. I really wanted to love this place. Like... really, really! With cotton candy, cupcakes, sundaes, red velvet fried chicken and spiked milkshakes awaiting within its stark white confines, how could you not expect amazingness? Unfortunately when we sat down to eat lunch, nothing really lived up to my high expectations. I ordered their corn chowder which was actually pretty good but was one of those dishes that you grow tired of quickly. The milkshake was just so-so; I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate they used. The tots were delicious but the fried chicken tasted burned. This would be a great spot for a date (they serve drinks too!) or a birthday for kids. I would also consider it just for an afternoon sugar craving. I wouldn't come back for a full blown meal, though.

Starbucks

Julia Gleason: This Starbucks is rumored to be the busiest in San Francisco which if you're judging by the speed in which they serve you, you'd never know. About once a week I stroll in to get a latte and every time the line is wrapped towards the other side of the store. I never leave, though, because I know that they always get to me quickly. They also know me by name. It doesn't matter if I stop going for a month and come back in, they always know my name. I know it sounds silly but it really does ad something to the experience. They know me! Their coffee is always good but I'm a Starbucks fan. I'm not in to Peet's or Tully's - too strong.
